biography
"The American Refugee

Over the last five years the American Refugee has played all over the Chicago land, Orange county, LA, Idaho, Kansas City, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Denver & Phoenix areas. This grungy acoustic sound with lyrics sifting though experience looking for meaning to life, love & freedom, has been a main stay at local places like The Ashbary Coffee House, where The American Refugee played monthly and sometimes bi-monthly, or the Fat Bean where he was a featured artist on several occasions. Regularly played The Java Juice, Chase Café, Caffeine, Hog Head MCDunnas. Chad Feipel the 26 year old artist behind the project has been all over the place in the local scene over the last five years. Artistically he has been behind projects such as Floored, Not So Yesterday, XEN, and co-organizes the improv comedy troupe and conservatory well known for there longest and largest improv open mic in the suburbs. Chad has been no stranger to the business on the local scene from host various open mics to managing and booking venues, founding e-zines, and even opening underground club out of his house. Chad a native to the south side of Chicago and it is said that you can hear that in the soulful rasp that is mainstay of the Chicago blues scene. When asked about what he wants to achieve by getting his music out there he replied with this, “I play music to because it’s what I need to do to survive. The Achievements I have made and will make are all part of my music journey and knowing and understanding the successes and failures of each experience is all that I can ask for. However I wouldn’t turn down fame and I take writing very seriously and performing very seriously. It’s not just my reputation out there it’s the reputation of my band mates as well I would hope they have the same respect for me.” Here are some things others had to say about Chad's voice.

"Chad's voice is a force of nature. Alone onstage without a microphone and nothing but an unamplified guitar he can overtake an entire room of talking people and make you think he is the only thing there. Every time he takes the stage I become speechless and my eyes can't focus on anything except the passion and beauty of the man that is the American Refugee."

"What else can I say but you've got heart, kid. I've heard you sing in person so many times, and every time I can hear you pouring your raggedy white-boy soul into the words like it was the last time you might ever get to sing.""
